I’m Ryan. I recently completed my PhD in Cognitive Psychology at UC Santa Cruz, working under Prof. Alan Kawamoto in the Computational & Experimental Cognition Lab. My research focuses on how visual speech cues, such as facial expressions and gestures, shape real-world communication. I study how visual speech cues are produced during speech, how visual speech cues might improve (or impair!) speech perception, and how visual cues help listeners understand speech in noisy or distracting settings. In addition to my academic research, I am passionate about applying quantitative methods to address human-centered problems. I enjoy exploring research methods, data science, and machine learning solutions through personal projects and challenges. Please check out my blog to read about my work.
